Greg Allman Passes

Monroe Suggins RIP

My friend from the 1970's, Gregg Allman has passed and our prayers go out to Devon, Elijah Blue and his family back in Georgia and Florida.

Gregg and I became friends when I was involved in promotion of the Allman Brothers Band. In October of 19 71 we promoted the band at Painters Mill Music Fair in Baltimore, MD. Duane was exhausted after the show and actually left the venue while ABB played their 4th encore. We took them to BWI airport the next afternoon and that was the last time I saw Duane. He died three days later. For whatever reason Gregg and I became friends because we were close to the same age and we had been there at Duane's last performance. My friend Tom Perry, who actually handed Duane his fringed leather as he left the venue reminded me, that was actually the last time the original ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND performed together.

Whenever Greg was touring in the area we would get together for libations and visit. In fact when Cher threw him out he called me at the Bayou in Georgetown (no cell phones then.) The doorman said "Hey Brent somebody named "Monroe Suggins is on the phone for you." I knew it was Gregg because he used that name to avoid telling people on the phone who he was. It was code. I answered. "What's up Monroe?" He sounded down and explained that he had to get the hell out of LA, man. "Cher threw me out. Can I come to DC and hang with you for a few days ?" I said "sure Gregg, you are always welcome here."

Next day he was in DC and stayed with myself and  Tim Tanner (my room mate and guitarist with C Smash) for nearly 2 weeks at our house in McLean, VA. One of the highlights of my life was being invited onstage to sing Stormy Monday Blues with Gregg and Mark Wenner's Night Hawks at The Apple Pie in Georgetown, DC. What a night..

I'll never forget those days. Nor will I ever forget Monroe!

Rest in Peace Gregg ALLMAN

*A couple of years ago Tanner, Flurie andI did a show with Gregg's son Devon Allman. Devon is a great

singer /songwriter. He plays his ass off and looks like Uncle Duane. If you ever get the chance to see Devon in concert, DO IT! Wishing him blessings in his time of loss.

SWEET SARAH BROWN! /When Arts Embrace

Recently while perusing Al Gore's Amazing internet, I came upon an author by the name of Sarah McCoy. Sarah's work is on the New York Times Best Seller list. She wrote a book called "The Mapmakers Children" and in it is the story of Sarah Brown who was the daughter of John Brown Abolitionist, who was hanged in Harpers Ferry West VA, on charges of Treason. In honor of her father and to continue his work, Sarah Brown made dolls that contained secret maps directing slaves to safe houses along the Underground Railroad.

So I reached out to Ms. McCoy and told her about our own Sweet Sarah Brown, from the Rivers Edge CD Cabin Fever and she said she would be delighted to hear it. I sent her the song and she loved it! (what's not to love?)

So please go to Amazon or your favorite book store and order "The Mapmakers Children" and while at Amazon or on iTunes or CD Baby order a copy of Sarah Brown.

We are redesigning the web site for 2017. We have so much music and so many things to share for the new year.

I am hoping to be doing some road trips in 2017 with the Natchez Trace Band and hope you will come out to see us live with some new music and surprise artists.

Stay Tuned!

Congratulations to the President Elect. Now let's put our country back together. And if people don't want to participate.. so be it.

Get out of the way...Train's A Comin'

As an Artist / Singer Songwriter, husband and father I am not one to bring my political face to the professional career.  "Shut up and Sing" (Laura Ingraham's book, comes to mind, but please vote to save our founding father's vision and the Constitution.

I have lived through many years of strife from Civil Rights in the 60's, Vietnam, 9/11 and current terror threats and attacks. Our elite system of government is corrupt and it needs shaking up and dumping out. Becoming a multi-millionaire while receiving a salary of $174,000 is an amazing feat. And why don't the elite have the same health care they by law insist we have? Cause it SUCKS.

Vote to dump the clowns!

Well, as time marches on (Tracy Lawrence) so does the evolution of our music. However one thing I wanted to do is to add the Cabin Fever CD to CD Baby because the classic CD has never before been available for download on the current music sites like Pandora, itunes etc. Ray Jones and Mike Unger (Ash to Ash) who co-wrote the Cabin Fever with me have approved the move so look for Cabin Fever on your favorite digital sites as of 3 6 14. Just go to this link  http://cdbaby.com/riversedge3

That background photo is from the John F.Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Brent Woodall performed there as part of the ASCAP Mid Atlantic Songwriters Awards where he was honored to perform Cabin Fever, with Tim Tanner on guitar. Stephen Swartz; composer of Godspell, Pippin and WICKED, hosted the event and congratulates Brent in this photo.
